My Approach

 

My aim is to provide a safe, respectful and non-judgmental space where you feel supported to explore who you are and what truly matters to you. I focus on helping you to learn how to deal with your difficulties, develop skills and mental resilience to respond more flexibly to your struggles as well as to everyday life.


Psychological distress is part of human experience and all human beings experience distress at some points in their lives. At times however, when distress is more intense or prolonged, it can influence and interfere with moving forward with your life and feeling as if being stuck.  This may result from previous challenging experiences and learned responses to them that were useful at that particular time, however they may not be useful at the present and in the long-term. Often people are not aware of their ways of responding and despite longing for personal change that would equip them to manage their struggles, they are unsure of how to take alternative steps.


Counselling and psychological therapy can support you on the journey towards personal growth and handling challenges – might these be in form of difficult emotions such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, low-self esteem and others, or in the form of a more general sense of uncertainty and worry or perhaps feelings of not fully being yourself.


My approach draws primarily on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness. These approaches are designed to help you develop awareness of the key aspects of your thoughts and behaviors, manage challenging sensations and emotions, and identify and build further on existing strengths. Increased self-awareness and self-regulation skills promote psychological flexibility and ability to act based on personal values.


As a therapist I believe that placing the client at the center of the therapy is important in facilitating positive progress. Therefore I combine the therapeutic approaches according to the individual needs of each client. In addition, I place value on promoting a collaborative therapeutic relationship, where we jointly explore your challenges and work together towards achieving your goals. 


I believe that we all posses inner ability to grow and thrive. Through gently and sensitively supporting you to navigate through your challenges, helping you to try out and build new skills within a calm, kind and warm therapeutic space, the positive changes can be facilitated. The aim of my sessions is to promote building long-term abilities that you will be able to take away with you and utilize in your future.
